Tobacco Free Madison County

Tobacco Free Madison County (TFMC) is a public health program operated by Madison County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse. The office is located in Canastota, New York. TFMC is overseen by the New York State Department of Health.
The purposes of TFMC are to denormalize tobacco use, to decrease exposure to secondhand smoke, and to promote local and statewide quit smoking programs. These goals are accomplished by reducing tobacco advertising, educational media campaigns, and strengthening no smoking policies.
TFMC provides technical consultation to local organizations to reduce tobacco advertising or to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke on their grounds.
TFMC is spearheading an ongoing project to create a memorial scrapbook for persons who have suffered or died from using tobacco or from breathing secondhand smoke.
TFMC's local partners include Madison County Reality Check (a youth group) and Tri-County Quits (a quit smoking program).
TFMC advertises the NY State Smokers Quitline at 1-866-NY-QUITS. This toll-free call will help smokers access free information on how to quit, a free personalized quit plan, and referral to local low cost quit smoking programs. Callers may also be eligible to receive a free starter supply of nicotine replacement medications (regardless of income).
This program serves all towns in Madison County, New York, including but not limited to: Chittenango, Canastota, DeRuyter, Georgetown, Lebanon, Smithfield, Fenner, Lincoln, Cazenovia, Brookfield, Sullivan, Lenox, Eaton, Nelson, Wampsville, Oneida, Madison, Stockbridge, Munnsville, Hamilton, and Morrisville.
