Titanium Indulgence

Titanium Indulgence is a science fiction novel written by Haydn Papalia and Jeremy Cheang. The novel is one of few which has been recognised as a display of local talent, primarily because of it being inspired by the local titanium dioxide refining industry, near to where the authors' reside in Bunbury, Western Australia.
Plot synopsis
In the book, mankind is faced with the prospect of a third world war. Fiorenzo Moss is approved by the Australian government for training at the elite Academy 7, going against his and his father Leopoldos wishes for him to work in their titanium refining plant. Upon departure from Bunbury for Academy 7, Fiorenzo is immediately scrutinized by the administration for his hijinks, causing other students to like him. Fiorenzo gains the reputation of an elite prankster and also ascends to be one of Academy 7's elite students. He seeks refuge from his daunting past in various ways, though is unable to be comforted until his aunt Carlotta sends him a book, reminding him of his initial ambition to persist through Academy 7 and 8 and help his country.
After the realization that he is at Academy 7 to help his aunt, Fiorenzo is quickly promoted to prefect of Clan IV. He quickly transforms his comrades into both student who excel, and socially adept pranksters. Fiorenzo implements never before heard of strategies and abolishes old methods of pranking including the use of formations in the training room on Floor D.
Fiorenzo is then promoted to Academy 8 before Carlotta and his uncle Migello expect him to be. In command school, Fiorenzo is instructed on new techniques that he will have to be able to perform on Floor D of Academy 8. His comrades advanced to Academy 8 with him, as his teachers felt it was necessary to keep him in good company. Each day the 'moves' become more and more complex, pushing Fiorenzo past his limits.
Fiorenzo's final test consists of a series of complex tactical moves which are performed on Floor D of Academy 8. Fiorenzo is forced to break some social taboos in order to defeat the enemy Fiorenzo, knowing that it is expressly against the respectable rules of Academy 8, hoping that his teachers will find his ruthlessness unacceptable and remove him from his Clan, and allow him to return home to his father who wishes him to follow in his footsteps and continue to run their titanium refinement plant.
Shortly after Fiorenzo's final test, a peace treaty is agreed upon, and he does not have to go to war. This enables him to return home to his father and help work on the titanium refinement plant, succeeding in both this ambition, and his ambition to help his country.
Problems with recognition
The authors have found it difficult to gain recognition for their writing past local competitions and events. Most of this is put down to the fact that the authors had to personally pay for 100 copies of it to be published, making it difficult to garner attention.

* The product Formix, mentioned in the first chapter, is a reference to Ender's Shadow of the Ender's Game series.
* Fiorenzo Moss is named after Fiorenzo Bava-Beccaris, the Italian general.
