Legend of the 9

Legend of the 9 is a young adult fantasy fiction novel written by author Junius W. Yu. It was originally published in paperback in December 2008. It is the first book of the Legend of the 9 series, and introduces eleven-year-old Larian Macgy from Canberra, Australia and American psychiatrist Dr. Zechariah Zenith.
Plot summary
The novel does not revolve on a single character but a mulitude of characters interacting in a microcosm. It begins with the introduction of Dr. Zechariah Zenith's first encounter with magical elements and how he deals with it. It continues with a certain clandestine group called the Herald Foundation under Kenneth S. Genarts first meeting with Brandon Spiner's mysterious scientific endeavors.
Few years later, the story shifts at Canberra, Australia wherein young Larian Macgy cope up in living with his Aunt and Uncle. Then his mundane life changed when he received a package from a certain Dr. Zenith.

The cover was designed by the author, whilst Central Books Art Department provided the actual implentation of the design.
On the front cover, the illustration provides as follows:
There are nine crystal marbles in clockwise order namely gold, green, red, violet, orange, brown, transparent white, black and blue.
There are nine artifacts that would play a key role on the book and implies on certain charactes. In clockwise order, the weapon artifacts are as follows: the glaives, the stick, the wand, the bow & arrow, the sword, the shield, the scimitar, the hammer and the lance.
On the back cover, the following excepts are written:

Nine heroes that composed of a king, an archer, a viking, a demon hunter, a knight, a queen, a monk, a sailor and a magician would find themselves embroiled in the Magic War. A war fought in the arcane mystic arts of magic, both in the past and the present.

Critical reception
The original manuscript was submitted by the author as a thesis for the Creativity & Management course at the National Graduate School of Management under the Australian National University in 2004. The manuscript garnered the Fenner Arts Award and was later published by a Philippine publisher in Manila four years later.
