Amelia J. Dyer

Dr. Amelia J. Gearey Dyer is the Associate Dean for Academic Management and Program Coordination and the James Maxwell Professor of Christian Education and Pastoral Theology at Virginia Theological Seminary. Amy arrived in August of 1987 and became a member of the faculty June 1, 1990. From 1996 until December of 2007, she also served as the Director of the Center for the Ministry of Teaching at the Seminary.
Dr. Dyer earned her B. S. from The State University of New York at Plattsburgh and her M. S. and Ph. D. from Florida State University. She has done additional graduate work in Christian Education, Bible, Church History, and Theology.
Before coming to VTS she taught at Florida State, Florida Atlantic, and Broward Community College. She has taught public school, trained Head Start teachers, and volunteered as a Director of Christian Education.
Dr. Dyer is married to The Rt. Rev. J. Mark Dyer and they have four children and two grandchildren. She is a Parish Associate at St. Paul’s Church in Alexandria.
