Timothy Franklin

Tim Franklin (1955 - 17 November 2015) was a media identity in Tasmania and formerly in capital cities across Australia. Tim pioneered localised marketing across Tasmania via television and moved into new media as it arose. His promotions provided entry points for small businesses across the state.
Biography
Tim attended St Peters College in Adelaide and played drums with some of Australia’s top rock ’n roll bands before prior to becoming a radio announcer and television personality.
He was an on air personality in Perth (6KY), Newcastle (2KO) and Brisbane (4BC) before settling in Tasmania at 7HT and then going on to establish Radar Promotions in 1990. During that time he DJ'd at Studio 54 in New York, which at the time was the world’s number one night club.
Early life
As a teenager in South Australia he was attacked by a shark while surfing which left a scar across his calf.
An early association with a later world famous Australian Rock Band provided a taste of the life that he would pursue although he found a home behind the microphone rather than the camera.
Expanded description
As well as Tims media life in front of a microphone he also provided entertainment and continuity for many local charities.
His promotional activities to businesses across Tasmania gave exposure to many that would not have been able to access those mass markets directly.
Honours, decorations, awards and distinctions
5 time winner of the Count Down Rock Awards
