"Throw a Penny" is a song released by the Bee Gees and the second single released from the album Mr. Natural released in 1974. Only released in the United States and Japan,the the single did not chart and continued a series of unsuccessful singles for the Bee Gees during this time.
Recording
"Throw a Penny" was recorded and finished in 17 December 1973, and later in December 20, the group as well as the backing band spent some time crossfading, "Charade" into this track, and this track into "Down the Road" with a newly recorded link track.
In the liner notes for the Tales from the Brothers Gibb box set, Barry Gibb commented on this song by saying "Where are we going?". The song was written by Barry and Robin Gibb. The single version was edited down to 3:32 by removing the quiet middle section and fading out the segue. Lead vocals by Barry on the first and second verse with Robin on the chorus and on the bridge.
