Thomas A. Walters

Thomas A. Walters
Was born in Rochester New York on March 31st 1951. He is an artist, art historian and art critic and the author of two published books. Having developed kindergarten through university-level art education programs, Walters has created an excellent source for interdisciplinary humanities courses or for anyone who would like an accessible introduction to the arts. In "The Arts":A Comparative Approach to the Arts of Painting, Scculpture, Architecture, Music and Drama (1), he analyzers the intrinsic qualities of ancient to contemporary works of art, setting them in their psychological, philosophical, religious, and cultural contexts. Walters' contextual approach is a refreshing change from traditional studies of art in which the historical and cultural backgrounds of artists and their works are not considered extensively. The contextual approach of the book enables its readers to gain a better understanding of the elements used to create artistic compositions and therefore have a deeper appreciation for the arts. Author Biography: Thomas A. Walters has taught art including design, art history, art education, and art appreciation at Indiana University South Bend, Southern Adventist University and University Motemorelos.
