"Think of Me" is a song composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber from his stage musical The Phantom of the Opera. It is sung by Elissa in the fictional Hannibal opera. At first, Carlotta Giudicelli is cast in the part, but during rehearsal a backdrop falls dangerously close to her. She quits, having had many similar experiences for several years. The managers almost cancel the show, but Meg Giry suggests that her friend Christine Daaé could sing the part. Christine begins to sing, tentatively, but soon she gains confidence and amazes the entire company with her voice and is given the role. During the performance that night, Christine's childhood friend, Raoul de Chagny, attends and is particularly impressed when he hears her. The lyrics of the song itself are asking someone to think of the singer, even when they are "far away and free." The song begins in D major as Christine begins to sing it in rehearsal, then modulates to E-flat major for the transition to the opening-night performance. It is the third song in the show, and the first in which the audience hears Christine sing. Carlotta's attempt at the song is in F-sharp major; she barely gets through half of one verse before the backdrop falls. In other media *David Archuleta performed the song on the April 22, 2008 episode of American Idol (Season 7).
