Theory in Action

Theory in Action is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal covering sociology and political science. It takes an interdisciplinary approach, examining interconnections between theory and action aimed at promoting social justice. The journal was established in 2008 and is edited by John Asimakopoulos and Ali Zaidi and published by the Transformative Studies Institute. It is available in over 220 academic libraries worldwide."
Overview
The journal aims "to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and the discussion of current research (qualitative and quantitative) on the interconnections between theory and action aimed at promoting social justice broadly defined." It focuses on three broad themes: connecting academic scholarship with activism, what Robert K. Merton calls "theories of the middle range"; promoting economic, racial, ethnic, and gender equality, and democratic political structures; and resistance to all forms of injustice.
The journal publishes special issues on topics which have included bridging anarchism and Marxism, literature, and critical pedagogy, as well as historical research articles on civil rights and the labor movement.
