Theatre Noir

Theatre Noir is a Hong Kong-based charitable educational theatre, which focuses on drama education and theatre productions for children and youth. It is founded in 2007. The founder and Artistic Director is William Yip.
Drama Education
The team has developed and implemented educational programmes in both primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong, including: Teachers’ Professional Training, School-based Curriculum Development, Co-curricular / Extra-Curricular activities, Drama Performances and Musical Productions.
They work with artistic and charitable organizations including Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts - EXCEL, Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Hong Kong Museum of Art, British Council Hong Kong, Oxford University Press, Trinity Guildhall and Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups.
In 2008, Theatre Noir has been commissioned by the Oxford University Press to publish the book “Learning English through Drama” for the New Senior Secondary (NSS) curriculum.
In 2009, Theatre Noir has been commissioned by the Hong Kong Education Bureau (EDB) to hold a series of Professional Development Programmes in order to help in-service teachers to cope with the demands of the New Secondary School (NSS) curriculum.
Theatre Productions
Theatre Noir worked in collaboration with Hong Kong Wetland Park and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to launch performances promoting environmental awareness. The WWF touring performance on climate change was showcased in Beijing, and is now being toured in schools across Hong Kong.
Since 2009, Theatre Noir has launched three original touring productions, using interactive theatre to allow students to reflect on the themes introduced in each performance. In addition, they have teamed up with Kwun Tong District Office to introduce a musical drama for an anti-drug campaign, which will also be toured in schools across Hong Kong.
In 2010, Theatre Noir launched Frankie Ho's musical Animal Farm based on George Orwell's novel.
In 2011, Theatre Noir launched Jason Robert Brown's musical 13 in both English and Cantonese.
Vision
Theatre Noir's vision is Drama is Empowerment.
Awards
The company was awarded “Caring Company 2008-2009” by the Hong Kong Council of Social Services.
