The Yard Preparatory School

The Yard Preparatory Academy is a private school that was started in August 2006 providing preschool / pre-primary grades Grade R, Grade RR, and Grade RRR.
The Yard is a Christian based school, but welcomes learners from different religions and cultures.
The Yard Preparatory Academy is registered with the Gauteng Department of Education, part of the Department of Basic Education. The school has been issued with their own EMIS number, confirming the school as an Independent Early Childhood Development Center.
Curriculum
Grade R learners follow the CAPS curriculum as prescribed by the Gauteng Department of Education. CAPS curriculum refers to the Department of Basic education's Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS) for Grade R (Reception year) to Grade 12. South Africa uses an outcome based school curriculum that defines lists of specific outcomes in different development areas that should be met by children from Grade R - Grade 12. In 2012 the National Curriculum was repackaged so that every subject in every grade now has a single and concise Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS). This provides details on what the teachers should teach and assess at any stage.
History
The school was founded in August 2006, specifically to cater for the founder's grandchildren that were born with complete cleft lip and palate and needed focused early childhood intervention for speech.
The Yard Preparatory Academy was also appointed the preferred Grade R site for the Lynnwood Ridge Primary school until such time as they got their own facilities for Grade R.
Currently The Yard offers Aftercare services exclusively to their own learners and that of the Lynnwood Ridge Primary school.
