The Škoda Prize for Indian Contemporary Art
Launched on August 17, 2010, The Škoda Prize is an initiative of ŠkodaAuto India and Seventy Event Management Group, Mumbai. The Škoda Prize seeks to recognize and reward the finest Indian Contemporary Artist.
The award of Rs 1 million is for the best collection of Indian contemporary art by a single artist in the country. It will be an annual event from 2010 onwards.
Any Indian citizen, under the age of 45 years, can submit entries for The Škoda Prize, provided the artist has held a solo exhibition between May 1 of the previous year and April 30 of the current year. Nominations can be by individuals or via the galleries. The last date for submission of entries for 2010 is September 30, 2010.
The 5-member jury for The Škod Prize includes Chairperson, Tasneem Zakaria Mehta, Mumbai-based historian, writer, curator and culture activist; Kavita Singh, an associate professor at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi; and Rajshree Pathy, an art connoisseur. Two more jury members will be inducted in November 2010. The jury will be helped by a panel of Expert Advisors.
