The Scorseses

The Scorseses is an eight-piece, horn driven progressive rock and ska band from New Orleans, Louisiana. Formed in 2009, the band consists of former members of past and current New Orleans based groups, Trombone Shorty, Slang Angus, Alone at the Wheel, and Jake Smith. Their sound has been described as "a highly eclectic group of styles, with focused guitar progressions and virtuoso-style bass lines beefed by a powerful horn section and keyboards" and "an even measure of radio-ready alternative rock and ska, occasionally spiced with funk for added groove and psychedelic flavoring, giving birth to a fun sound that is welcomingly familiar, yet distinct".
History
The Beginning (2009-2011)
The Scorseses began in the fall of 2009, under the name The Scorseses Kickball Prom. A collaboration of childhood friends stemming from a wide variety of past musical experience brought (vocalist) Vincent Ebeier and (drummer) Christopher Noto of Alone at the Wheel together in effort to embellish and revamp the rock, progressive, and ska performance. Highly influenced by such national acts as RX Bandits, Minus the Bear, Sublime, and Glassjaw, they soon recruited (guitarist/vocalist) David Latino of Slang Angus, (bassist) David Demarest of Trombone Shorty, and (keyboardist) Jerell Rodriguez. Soon after releasing their first live-recorded single entitled "Get Some Culture" in the spring of 2010, they recruited (saxophonist/vocalist) Danny Nixdorff of Jake Smith and (trumpeter/trombonist) Jimmie Reamey to provide an even larger, horn infused perspective to their sound.
On March 17, 2010, The Scorseses opened for surf-rock legend Dick Dale at "The Howlin' Wolf" venue in New Orleans, Louisiana.
On April 15, 2011, The Scorseses opened for rock supergroup, The Damned Things, consisting of Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano of Anthrax, Keith Buckley of Every Time I Die, and Joe Trohman of Fall Out Boy
Presenting...The Scorseses (2011-2013)
Production of their first five-track EP release, Presenting...The Scorseses, began in the Spring of 2010, under the direction of recording engineer Drew Vonderhaar of Sheryl Crow, Theresa Anderson, and Mudvayne. Bassist and vocalist of Punch People, Danny Bourgeois, was elected to mix and master the album with a target release date of early 2011. The album was released in late February 2011, with an overall excellent reception by city press and audience. Critic Alex Rawls of New Orleans, Louisiana's noted, "The Scorseses use ska as a launching pad, and, like Mutemath, builds something contemporary from refashioned versions of classic parts. Throughout their debut five-song EP, they show similar invention, and it's easy to see how this could fine a big audience."
On February 26, 2011, The Scorseses released their debut EP, "Presenting...The Scorseses" to a heavily anticipated crowd at The House of Blues in New Orleans, Louisiana.
On March 25, 2011, The Scorseses released the album nationally by means on online distribution outlets iTunes, CDBaby, and Zune.
In June 2011, The Scorseses were awarded "Best Band Reinventing Their Game" by Where Y'at Magazine's "2011 Best of the Big Easy Awards" in New Orleans, Louisiana
On July 3, 2011, members of The Scorseses, Danny Nixdorff, Jimmie Reamey, and Geoffrey Grice, performed on stage with RX Bandits during their final performance in New Orleans, Louisiana, as part of their "2011 Farewell Tour".
