THE PERFORMANCE POETRY SOCIETY

THE PERFORMANCE POETRY SOCIETY

The Performance Poetry Society was founded in 1999 by members of the Birmingham Midland Institute to serve the interest of performance poets and poetry in performance throughout the UK and Ireland.

Top performance poet Jim MacCool remains prime mover and patron of the Society.

The Society initiated October as National Poetry Month in the year 2000.
It organises an extensive national tour each autumn, visiting small halls, colleges, schools and prisons. The Society has an in-house publishing company, the Poetry Powerhouse Press, which handles Jim MacCool’s Ionan Tales.

The Society exists in order to foster the proliferation of Poetry and Song.
