The L Magazine

The L Magazine is a weekly city guide for New York City, focusing on the downtown neighborhoods of Manhattan and Brooklyn; its style is based on similar magazines such as Pariscope Magazine of Paris, France. The first issue was published in April 2003.
N. Scott Stedman is the founder and publisher. He launched the independent magazine from a one-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn with editor Jonny Diamond, Dev Subhash, and brother Daniel Stedman.
On October 29, 2004 staff members of The L Magazine competed against rival weekly New York Presss staff in a series of boxing matches. The L Magazine was undefeated.
The L magazine website features a daily blog about town written primarily by L magazine writers Mark Asch and Sharon Steel, as well as others.
The L also hosts an annual "Literary Upstart," competition billed as "the search for pocket fiction," wherein aspiring short story authors partake in an American Idol-like read-off judged by local literati like the New Yorker's Ben Greenman.
