2011 Season
The 2011 Season saw the biggest change in the clubs history with the merging between KOBS and local rivals Carlingford Churches FC. The number of players playing for the club had also swollen to accommodate four teams (KOBS A & B) which would compete in the higher division known as the Raahague Cup. KOBS A First Team was put together primarily by players from Carlingford whilst the KOBS B squads were put together by already current KOBS players. This set up for the clubs first ever derby matches that would shape the tone season.
Before the season had begun there were holes in the team that had to be patched with the announcement that the influential play maker Peter Denyer announcing his retirement from competitive Football and continuing a career in management. Three big name signing were made on transfer deadline day with the strong and reliable Greek Defender Robert Konstantouplous and two attacking minded midfielders Tim Nurcombe and Hugh Halliwell to bolster the squad. Junior players from the The Kings School Christian Ellis, Matthew Barbeau and Suvan Madden were called up to the squad to bring the average age of players down to 20.
The first game of the season saw KOBS playing the champions from the previous season St Patricks who had also been promoted from Raahague Cup North. KOBS had never defeated St Patricks and with the scores level at 1-1 it looked to be heading for a opening day draw. That was until the young debutant Christian Ellis stepped up for the goal of the season with a cracking cross that turned into a shot, the game ended 2-1. Ellis following the game stated "Yeah mate, That really was a shot, I totally meant to hit that" (The Guardian). The following weeks saw KOBS go from win to win going undefeated until the first derby game of the season. In what will be remembered for its high tempo and flaring tempers Carlingford grabbed an early lead before Christian "Pedro" Lewis grabbed an equaliser before half time. As the game drew on, risky tackles and play acting became present in the game with obvious frustration beginning to show for both teams. That frustration for KOBS was only increased with a dubious goal scored by Carlingford in the dying minutes, followed by a 3rd to end the game 3-1. This match sent shock waves through the squads and lead to teams training separately from one other and questions being asked about the purpose of the merge. With Chester Hill going undefeated in the opening weeks KOBS had their work cut out as they travelled to the "Cauldron" of Walshaw Park in Chester Hill. Chester Hill scored early into the game and sat back comfortable with their two goal lead, Nicholas Bruce scored a goal shortly after the commencement of the second half before another goal by Chester Hill all but decided the fate of the game. The game will also be remembered from one incident in particular. Mitch Wade the 16 year old had just been substituted on for Chester Hill and after one robust tackle from the Czech utility player Daniel Trejbal, Wade launched into a fury of punched ripping the shirt off Trejbal's back and being sent off. Robert Konstantoplous following the game "Listen mate you saw what happened, Trejbal has always been a target by other teams for his slight frame and this is just another incident for the judiciary to look at" (Daily Mail).
The table was beginning to take shape as the midpoint of the season arrived with Chester Hill continuing there undefeated run and the two KOBS teams along with St Patricks rounding out the rest of the top of table. One of the more infamous match incidents came in the match against Penrith Churches, with KOBS comfortably winning 5-0. After a sixth goal was scored by Brenton Russo the Penrith side adamant that goal was scored from an offside position began appealing to the referee in disgust that it had been awarded. At the restart Penrith Player Tito Mwanza went into a studs up tackle on Hugh Halliwell and was sent immediately off by the referee. Reports have stated that KOBS player and dressing room clown Aaron Williams shouted to the referee to send the player off. Mwanza in hearing this began yelling "Who say send him off!" (Match Report Quote) followed by approaching Williams to let him know that "You are not the referee" and grabbing the player around the collar. This then incited a brawl with Bruce coming in to push the Penrith Player off Williams who was in a state of shock. Bruce received a yellow card and the game continued with the drama continuing off the field and into the tribunal the following week. Robert Konstantopolous fronted the media stating "Look Mate this is another incident at opposition players taking a swing at my boys and I wont have it, let the referee do their thing and incidents such as these wont happen" (SMH)
KOBS for the second time in their history had made it into the final 4 meaning they would partake in the Finals Series. A finals match up between KOBS and Carlingford was all the talk around the North Parramatta/Hill District with the possibility of another feisty game with a lot at stake to be played at Walshaw Park. After two previous defeats in the season to Carlingford, Kobs was determined to defeat the old enemy and make the clubs first ever Semi Finals. Christian "Pedro" Lewis scored the only goal in a tight affair sending the stadium into delirium. Captain Robert Konstantoplous described the result as "A true backs to the wall defending effort the same of which can win us the title this year." (The Sun)
The biggest match in the clubs short history was to be played at a ground that KOBS have had trouble on in the past, Fraeme Park. Even before the game had started the news that Goalkeeper Scott Johnson failed a medical deeming him unfit to play in the crucial match and backup keeper Rasha Watson was suspended. Reserves Goalkeeper Aaron Chan was called up for the match. Things were not going KOBS way as the match progressed, Christian "Pedro" Lewis missed a golden one on one opportunity (which would have won him the Golden Boot)and a fumble in the 23" by called up Goalkeeper Aaron Chan saw St Patricks take the lead. It was not to be KOBS year as chance after chance was scorned but no breakthrough, the game ended 1-0. St Patricks went on to defeat the undefeated Chester Hill side in the finals to win the Title.
The Season was deemed by all a massive success with the club having there best ever season in the clubs short history. Robert Konstantopolous picked the PFA Award, Matthew Barbeau was awarded the Best Young Talent in his debut season and Nicholas Bruce picked up the Golden Boot with his 11 goals of the season. The club was also boosted with the news that they had been promoted into the NSW Churches Premier League for the 2012 season.
2012 Season
After the success from the 2011 season the club had been promoted to the Premier League and had separated from Carlingford Churches FC to become a independent club once again. Rain had disturbed much of the preseason plans and for the first year no PreSeason tournament was held. KOBS would be represented in the Premier League along with a team in the Raahague Cup.
KOBS were the more busy of the teams in transfer market with the signings of the Irish duo Ronan Lyons and Michael Murphy and after the departure of Tim Nurcombe meant that another creative minded midfielder had to be brought in, Joe Ciardi and Charlie were transferred on deadline day. Konstantoplous described these signing as "Great lads with huge potential that are going to do well in this league". The step up in division also meant a change in formation from the usual 4-2-2-2 to a 4-5-1 to accommodate a strong midfield.
Opening day in the top division was played on a scorching Sydney Afternoon that required the game to be broken into four quarters against St Columbus. The match ended 2-1 with debutant Charlie scoring a consolation goal late on in the game. KOBS were beginning to see how much of a step up was needed to compete at this level with two back to back 3-0 losses Wentworthville and Greystanes before a rain out match and Easter break allowed for the team to recuperate. KOBS faced the old foe Chester Hill at Walshaw park and after falling behind 2-0 after 10 minutes it looks to be another tough day at the office. That was until captain Robert Konstantopolous gave a memorable speech at half time. Two goals that could only be described as flukes were scored which put Chester Hill on the back foot before Hugh Halliwell completed a hat trick and Charlie rounding off the comeback with a 4-2 and putting KOBS first points on the table. Trejbal was asked after the game how much Roberts speech helped with the comeback "Yeah Robert has the words and the passion to instill in us belief that anything is possible and im hoping this can continue for the rest of the season". Another win was sealed the following week against St Matthews before a string a matches against the top teams where KOBS were unlucky to find themselves being defeated. The season is currently in its 13th Week with 5 more games to play.
