The half-beard guy

Don "the half-beard guy" Miller (born May 16, 1942), a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, gained that title and local media attention during the 2016 National League Baseball season due to his unusual half-shaved appearance. In April, 2016, Don revealed that he had a "premonition" the Chicago Cubs would finally win the World Series, after failing to do so since 1908. He announced that he committed himself to never shave half of his face again until they won. Several media outlets picked up on Don's personal challenge to himself, and his story was featured in print, radio and television.
In addition to his half-shaved face vow, Don is also known for other Cubs-related adventures dating back to 1998 when he won the Palatine 4 July parade float contest. Mayor Rita Mullins awarded Don Miller and his family 1st prize for their giant 14-foot animated Harry Caray float.
Don grew up in Chicago in the Lincoln Square neighborhood, about 2 miles from Wrigley Field. Don became a Chicago Cubs fan at a young age and would sometimes attend the games by any means possible. One story that Don tells involves himself and a cousin taking advantage of a tall man assisting young fans to climb over the outside fence of Wrigley Field for them to gain entry into the stadium. Since they only had enough money for 1 ticket, they decided to take advantage of the situation. Don's cousin Ralphie took the first turn, and successfully hurdled the fence with the help of the man. Unfortunately Don's attempt to climb over was interrupted by him ripping his brand new cherished jacket that his grandmother had purchased for him during a special trip to Maxwell St. After surveying the damage, Don realized that the tall man had disappeared, and the two cousins were now separated by the fence. Don, still having enough money for 1 ticket, walked around to the main gate and paid to gain entrance into the stadium. Once inside, Don could not locate his cousin. After spending several innings finding the area inside the stadium where his cousin was lifted over the fence, Don still had no luck. He then looked down to the street only to see his cousin standing below, having exited the stadium to search for Don. Don exited and they both missed the game.
