The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime

The Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime (GITOC), launched formally in New York City in September 2013, is a network of prominent law enforcement, governance and development practitioners who are dedicated to seeking new and innovative strategies and responses to organized crime.
Aims and functions
The Global Initiative was born from a series of high-level, off the record discussions between mainly (though not exclusively) law enforcement officials from both developed and developing countries, hosted by the International Peace Institute in New York City in 2011-12.
The Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime would seek to provide a platform to promote greater debate and innovative approaches as the building blocks to an inclusive global strategy against transnational organized crime.
These are the main themes that GITOC deals with:
* Corruption
* Crime Prevention
* Drug Trafficking
* Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling
* Money Laundering
* Organized Crime
* Piracy
* Wildlife Crime
* Terrorism Prevention
* Cyber Crime
Organizational structure
The Global Initiative and all of its entities are supported by a full-time Director and a dedicated Secretariat in Geneva which is responsible for programmatic, financial and administrative management of the Global Initiative and its Programs and Activities. The Secretariat convenes and organizes the meetings of the Network, of which form part, among others, Moisés Naím, Misha Glenny, Rodrigo Ávila, Gwen Boniface, the Advisory Board, and the Steering Committee.
