The Gelato Fiasco

The Gelato Fiasco is a creator and seller of gelato and sorbetto products. Its production kitchen and retail store is located at 74 Maine Street in Brunswick, Maine. The company also sells its products through wholesale channels across Maine. The Gelato Fiasco makes all of its gelato and sorbetto from scratch using the "hot process" instead of a "cold process" approach.
History
The company was founded in 2007 by Joshua Davis and Bruno Tropeano, who graduated from Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts in 2005. According to published statements, the creators believed the could not find high-quality gelato in the United States and believed that a business opportunity was available. They selected Brunswick, Maine, a year-round coastal community that is home to Bowdoin College and Naval Air Station Brunswick. Their production facility and retail store in opened in August 2007. In addition to gelato and sorbetto, the retail store offers indoor and outdoor seating, free wireless internet access, weekly concers, and coffee by Wicked Joe Roasting. Wholesale operations began in 2008. The company's largest wholesale customer is Whole Foods Market in Portland, Maine. The company was also selected as a finalist in the 2009 Intuit Small Business United competition.
