The Essential Beatles is a greatest hits compilation album by The Beatles which was exclusive to Australia and New Zealand. All of the songs featured on the album (except "With a Little Help from My Friends") reached the top 3 in the Australian charts as singles and EP tracks. Mixes Most of the songs on the album are in true stereo. "Love Me Do", "P.S. I Love You" and "Baby You're A Rich Man" are in "fake stereo". EMI Australia asked EMI UK for a stereo mix of Penny Lane. EMI Australia apparently requested the stereo mix prior to Germany's issue of Magical Mystery Tour - which was released before The Essential Beatles. The mix of "Penny Lane" that appears on The Essential Beatles, runs slow with a noticeable "warble". The version of "Long Tall Sally" on this album, has the stereo channels reversed.
