The Brass Mug

The Brass Mug live music venue/full liquor smoking allowed bar located on Skipper Rd. in Tampa, Florida. Its original location was on Fletcher Ave.; it moved to Florida Ave. in 2012 and to 1450 Skipper Road in 2013. It is known for being a gritty, smokey bar where live music is hosted every weekend, as well as select weekday evenings, and has been called "the CBGB of Tampa. The venue has been in continuous operation since 1974 and has become a haven for live rock music, black metal, thrash metal, speed metal, death metal and occasionally alternative groups. It is currently owned by Heather Mullis, a former booking agent and bartender for the club who purchased it from its previous owner in 1996. Heather was able to get her full liquor license and turned The Brass Mug from a beer and wine establishment to a full liquor establishment. The Brass Mug was one of the first venues to stream concerts live over the internet. Acts such as Cannibal Corpse, Nirvana, Obituary, Green Day, No Doubt, Leon Russell, Kreator, Six Feet Under, Rick Derringer, Les Dudek, Dave Brockie Experience, Gene Loves Jezebel, Flotsam and Jetsam, Exhumed, Eric Gales, Whitesnake, White Lion, Every Mother's Nightmare, Tora Tora, As I Lay Dying, Mastodon, Dying Fetus, The Stapleheads, Gorguts, Vader, The Meatmen, and The Dead Milkmen among others have played at The Brass Mug in their infancy while touring The United States.
