In 2008, Alex rode from Kuching, Sarawak to Tawau, Sabah, via Brunei, on 'A Solo Scooter Tour Of Borneo'. Taking a slow 9 days to travel 2,600km, he envisioned a day when he would cross Borneo in just a day from one capital city on the far West to another on the far East, travelling entirely on the Pan Borneo Highway.
He planned for the run to start from the city of Kuching in Sarawak State and end in the city of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah State, passing through the country of Brunei or Bandar Seri Begawan, not once but twice, as the small Limbang Division in Malaysia, effectively splits the oil rich state of Brunei into two halves. Furthermore there would be a state border crossing from Sarawak into Sabah for the final leg.
ATTEMPTS
The 1st attempt on the 10th February 2011 began from Kuching - A West to East route. After 12 hours and 900km, his motorcycle broke down in Brunei. The journey to Kota Kinabalu was eventually continued and completed days later.
The 2nd attempt was on the 16th February 2011 - this time a West to East route beginning from Kota Kinabalu. After just 30km into the run, he aborted the attempt due to an electronic malfunction on his motorcycle.
The 3rd and successful attempt was on the 25th February 2011. Riding his KTM 690 R Duke, he departed from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, in the East at 0333hrs and arrived in Kuching, Sarawak, in the West, just 20 hrs later at 2330hrs.
