The bang girl group revue

The Bang Girl Group Revue (alt The Bang) are a San Francisco bay area band that has been active since 2009. The Bang draws upon 1960's girl group and mod influences and adds a touch of psychedelic rock and funk influences. The Bang released their first album "Soul Shangri-La" in 2013 on Psychedelphonic Records. , which has received several positive reviews from various worldwide press, including record collector's favorite Goldmine Magazine (July 2013), and iTunes official reviewer Eric Shea, who says 'San Francisco's underground music scene boasts the most ardent devotees of the resurgence of the '60's girl group sound. The Bang Girl Group Revue is the city's best period-correct recreationist ensemble, with nary an anachronism", The Big Takeover Magazine, who say "The title of the album leads one to expect ’60s girl group and r’n‘b stylings and while that’s hugely present, what’s also present here is the country-rock hints prevalent in guitarist Derek See‘s previous band The Careless Hearts (who have backed the legendary James Williamson from Iggy and The Stooges). It’s a great combination that makes for a fun album." . The Bang features vocalists Angeline King, Rachel Mae, and Tisha Joy, and the vocal abilities and stylings of the three have been compared to the likes of Irma Thomas, Dionne Warwick, Martha Reeves and Wanda Jackson. . An earlier version of The Bang (Angeline King and Hanna Rifkin) performed onstage with Iggy & The Stooges guitarist James Williamson at his comeback concert with San Jose band Careless Hearts in 2009 at The Blank Club, San Jose, which was captured on the live LP James Williamson & The Careless Hears. Bang guitarist/ producer Derek See also worked as James Williamson's touring guitar tech for several years, and occasionally played keyboards onstage with Iggy & The Stooges. The Bang were one of the main stage support bands for Iggy & The Stooges at the 1st San Jose C2SV festival in 2013.
