Tetris Elements is a game developed by ImaginEngine and published by THQ based on the original Tetris game. It involves rotating and horizontally moving larger blocks made of four smaller ones into horizontal rows, thus clearing them. However, in Tetris Elements, in addition to the "Classic" mode where the gameplay is like that of the original without any gimmicks, there are 5 other modes based on the Classical Elements. It uses the standard 10 by 20 matrix, and goes from level 0 to 9 in speed.
Game Modes There are six game modes in Tetris Elements. Classic, Tempest, Fire, Ice, Earthquake, and Stratosphere. Each of them have their own special gameplay features, which makes them all different. Your strategy has to adapt in each mode. For example, in Stratosphere you have to clear the lines more strategically to get good meteors instead of the garage meteors, while in Earthquake you have to clear lines fast to relieve the pressure and avoid an earthquake.
Classic Classic Tetris is the normal Tetris, with no gimmicks or special gameplay features. Pros and newcomers alike will be able to appreciate the tried and true original gameplay.
Tempest Tempest is much like Classic, except for the fact you are playing on two matrices instead of one. Every once in a while a tornado will go past in the background, and it will switch you to the other matrix. The normal hold function which lets you save a piece for later doesn't work, instead, you press the button to send the piece to the other matrix. Using this, you can get the exact piece you need to get out of a tough situation.
Fire In Fire, you have to hard drop the pieces to superheat them. If you create a line with superheated blocks, they will explode, which will destroy even more blocks, up to 8 lines at once. The higher that you drop the pieces from, the bigger the explosion you will get, and the higher the score.
Ice Icicles form above the matrix in Ice. Once they reach maximum size, they'll plummet down, and take any blocks that they hit with them. A block hit by an icicle will be sent down, and each individual block will be forced down the farthest down it can go. This is important in Ice, because without it it would be impossible to clear the line of Ice blocks that appear when a giant icicle falls. To clear a line of ice blocks you have to use the smaller icicles to push your blocks down and clear all the lines underneath the line.
Earthquake Earthquake is an adaptation of another Tetris game, Tetris Cascade. The gravity system is altered so that the blocks left on top of a cleared line slide down into any holes underneath, which makes it possible to clear out the entire matrix with one block. You need to clear out the lines quickly, or an earthquake will shift your blocks all over the place, and ruining your line clearing plan. However, sometimes this can be useful, as it leaves a lot of gaps to cause a large cascade.
Stratosphere Stratosphere takes place in the middle of space. As you clear lines, meteors will come into the matrix, including the green garbage meteor, which leaves useless blocks lying around the grid, up to the white explosive meteor, which clears out all the blocks in the matrix! If you clear many lines in a row, then better and better meteors will appear. It is better to clear the lines strategicallt instead of clearing them whenever you can, otherwise you'll end up seeing a lot of garbage meteors.
