Teresa Borcz Khalifa

Teresa Borcz-Khalifa (born 1954) is a Polish foreign aid worker. She has lived in Iraq since 1970, holding Iraqi citizenship. She was kidnapped October 28, 2004 by the Abu Bakr al-Siddiq brigade. They demanded the release of all female prisoners taken by the Coalition and the withdrawal of all Polish troops from Iraq, in exchange for her life. She was released by her hostage takers on Saturday November 20, 2004.
Soon after the cessation of major combat operations Iraq, Teresa became very active in assisting with humanitarian crises in Baghdad. Though she worked as an individual contributor, she coordinated with US Army Civil Affairs units, Red Cross agencies and assisted with women's issues.
