Teens Run Modesto

Teens Run Modesto is a non-profit organization founded by Modesto High School Student Jamasen Rodriguez and Juvenile Court Judge Linda McFadden in early June of 2009. TRM works with at-risk children. Two of its first major events involved NASA astronaut Jose Hernández, who spoke at a fund-raising dinner and fired the starting pistol for its inaugural marathon.. TRM's mission statement involves getting teenagers to set goals involving a healthier lifestyle while preparing for fun runs.
History
Teens Run Modesto original website was called www.runmodesto.com . Teens Run Modesto is coordinated by Shadowchase Members Mike Araiza and Heidi Ryan and the Site leaders of all the participating schools. Through the TRM program, teenagers can earn physical education credits and shoes with educators seeing success. Its first-ever event was open to the public and provided a full marathon, half marathon, and 5K running events while promoting physical fitness and a healthy life-style. The inaugural marathon was won by Jon Olsen who is a teacher at Prescott Elementary School in Modesto, California. The first annual marathon attracted thousands of people with CBS 13's Alan Sanchez covering the event. Proceeds from the pledged donations will benefit the Teens Run Modesto program. A major sponsor of Teens Run Modesto is Surgical Artistry which is a medical group who became involved because its organization supports healthy living. $500 in start-up costs was pledged by ShadowCase Running Club which is another non-profit organization that promotes fitness related activities in the greater Modesto area.
