NE1 was an event that took place from 23-29 July 2006 across the North East of England, and centered at Herrington Country park in the City of Sunderland. The Caption was "One action, one voice". Around 1200 people from mainly the north east, but also many from other parts of the country and even a large party from Texas came to camp for 6 nights. The name is a play on the word "Anyone" and the first letters of 'North East'. Program Sunday On Sunday July 23, the delegates arrived from around the country. A commissioning service led by Phil Glover, Ken Riley and Jon Burns was the highlight of the evening, with the Bishop of Durham, Tom Wright as a special guest. Monday through Thursday The rest of the days were spent by having a Concert in the morning, featuring acts such as YFriday, thebandwithnoname and , then after that people would go out on busses to their designated projects, and from 2-4 they'd do the afternoon project, such as litter picking or running a children's playscheme. Then in the evenings hold free events in the hope of being able to talk about Jesus to people, then be back at campsite by 9 or 10 for the evening events. Friday All this was in preparation for the Friday night event at Herrington Country Park where people who wanted to learn more about Jesus could came to the gig. Young people were bussed from their home towns to Herrington Country Park for a big concert featuring many of the artists who played at the various NE1 venues throughout the week, approximately 2000 people turned up to hear more about Jesus Christ. Projects There were 108 churches running projects around the north east, in areas in and around Sunderland, Guisborough, Newcastle, and surrounding areas, the delegated were specifically sent to more deprived areas to try and improve them and enlighten more people about Christianity. Preston-on-Tees Events run by All Saints' Church, Preston-on-Tees are largely taking place in Preston Park. These include a cafe, sports, and activities for kids. Social action is taking place on the nearby Preston estate, and surrounding areas. Stockton Events in Stockton were being run in the same format as the annual Park Life. Darlington There were seven day-time projects running in Darlington in partnership with a number of agencies including the police and local council. Both the day-time projects and the evening events, which took place on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, were being co-ordinated by Cockerton Methodist Church and Christians in Darlington and District Schools (CIDDS). Each evening event ran from 7-9pm and was hosted by a team of youth and schools workers from Leeds Faith in Schools and featured a top Christian DJ or group. The line-up was as follows: Tuesday, Andy Hunter (DJ), Wednesday, MC Julio and Ad-Apt (DJ & MC) and Thursday, Blush UK (Girl group). Benwell People went to Benwell to either run a kids club at westgate primary school, or to pick up litter around the surrounding areas. On the evenings, some events were held on the sports field, featuring respected Christian bands.
