Ted Lang is a comedy writer/rewriter who was born in San Francisco, California. He was a rock&roll bands manager/concert promoter in San Franciso in the mid sixties where he worked alongside Chet Helms and Bill Graham; his venue was "Longshoremens Hall." He moved to Los Angeles in 1968 to write television, film and write material for stand-up comics; managed by Judy Thomas and represented by the legendary, Abby Greshler, he punched up, brightened scripts, wrote pilots for Comworld Entertainment/NBC (one of which included the acting debut of Brad Garrett) and other network projects. He wrote for Bob Hope (along with writing partner, Steve Barcus), Joan Rivers, Danny Gans, Dom deLuise, as well as many notable Las Vegas comedy acts. He was partnered and/or worked with Sidney Marshall, Dean Zynetos, Steve Barcus, Larry Tucker, John Boni, Sandy Fries and many others with whom he punched-up scripts, arranged through/supervised by Greshler and Thomas. He is a member of the WGA,w (since the seventies) and SAG. (this is referenced through WGA,w public records) Throughout his life he has been a community activist: In 1959 he coordinated the first successful Boycott in the history of the Oakland Public School System, causing student rights to be restored after an administrator capriciously removed the extra- curricular activities of the student body of Woodrow Wilson. (See "The Montclarion, 1995, Column written by editor,"Zenny," of this referenced newspaper -- Feel free to contact the paper). La Tuna Canyon, California, home to over two thousand residents, had become an environmental sewer. Once it had been the premier horse keeping area and was one of the last residential horse keeping areas in Los Angeles. Thirty years before, a new road connecting the Sun Valley business district to the newly constructed 210 freeway completely devastated rural the horsekeeping and environmental beauty of this neighborhood. Residents had unsuccessfully fought the City on the issue of habitability after the change of their rural street to an offramp/onramp to the 210 freeway for thirty years. Every single day over a thousand long haul trucks, garbage trucks and other eighteen wheelers used community road as a straight shot to the on-ramp for the 210, beginning at 4am and continuing to eleven or twelve pm, causing houses to shake, foundations to crumble and preventing residents from sleeping well. The diesel fumes alone had caused much of the indigenous wildlife and flora to disappear. He succeeded on this project thanks to the helpful assistance of Councilman Joel Wachs and his Chief Field Deputy, Arlene deSanctis. (To Reference: Contact Councilman Joel Wachs, now President of "The Andy Warhol Foundation.") Since this legislation, La Tuna Canyon has returned to the rural community it once was; it is the home to two schools: Vinedale Elementary and Village Christian School, one of the top private schools in Los Angeles; it is also home to the first 'free-range' dog boarding facilty in the United States -- Paradise Ranch, owned by Kris Goddard. (To reference, Contact Kris Goddard @ Paradise Ranch). Ted Lang retired from businesses in 1996 and lives between San Francisco and Los Angeles with his wife, actress/Golden Globe nominee, Angel Tompkins; they have two children, several dogs and one cat.
