The Taste of Johns Creek is an annual food festival that includes participation of many local restaurants from the city of Johns Creek, Georgia. At this event there are over fourty of the city’s most recognized restaurants, along with those that want to support the community . These restaurants set up booths and provide samples of their most popular food items suitable for this type of event. Tasters are charged an admittance fee and can sample as much or as little of the items that they desire. The food ranges from entrees to dessert, and includes things like sushi, steak, cookies, and tiramisu. Organizers try to provide a balance of participating restaurants. This is an extremely popular event for the city and it attracts around 3,000 people each year. This is one of the most popular festivals that come through the city of Johns Creek The tradition began two years ago (in 2008) shortly after Johns Creek became a newly incorporated city. At the time, city officials were looking for ways to foster a sense of community in the new city. Johns Creek planners borrowed an idea from a neighboring town that had an extremely popular tasting event and began their own annual event. The first annual taste of John’s Creek had 30 participating restaurants. It was a hit with John’s Creek Residents and thus became an annual event. Entertainment The event provides a venue for many other activities. Many local bands come to this event and play such as the CHS Brass Quintet. Many other types of activities are held at this event such as karaoke, bag-go, and many other contests where prizes can be won. Additionally a popular play Second Samuel will be played during the festival in the Auditorium. Purpose This is a charity event with the money raised going to support different organizations. Each year the organizers will review different charities and program in need of support and will make a decision how the funds raised will be allocated. Last year the money went to Chattahoochee High School’s (CHS) Gridiron football program to help build a new locker room . Allocations to the CHS were also used for the school’s other programs such as the band and orchestra programs and by providing money for transportation to allow these programs to go to competitions on a national level. The combination of John’s Creek organizers and 2nd annual Taste of John’s Creek host Chattahoochee High School really helped to increase the program’s visibility and really helped the Taste of Johns Creek expand its support and participation. The number of restaurants participating in the event grew by more than 20 in its second year, and the level of festival attendees increased dramatically.
