Tarique Mustafa

Tarique Mustafa is an American of Pakistani origin. He was born in Karachi, Pakistan on August 6, 1963. Tarique is a Silicon Valley technologist and hi-tech entrepreneur. Tarique came to the United States on a Rotary International Scholarship to attend University of Southern California (USC) for graduate education in Engineering and Computer Science. He is the founding CEO of nexTier Networks, a Silicon Valley data security company that has developed 4th generation Semantic Analysis based software solution for Data Leak Prevention. Based on his pioneering research and innovation in Data Security, Tarique for the first time introduced the concept of “Malicious Data Leak Prevention (DLP)” in a Track Presentation Session in RSA-2009 where he presented a formal definition of Malicious DLP and taxonomy of Evasion Attacks against DLP systems. Tarique is a leading authority on Semantic Analysis technology. His innovative concept of Semantic DNA Vector Encoding technique culminated into a key patent and earned the prestigious ‘Excellence in Technology Innovation Award’ from Frost & Sullivan in 2009. Tarique’s work in the area of Malicious DLP and Evasion Attacks was further enhanced and later on presented in the DLP-Russia 2010 conference in Moscow, Russia where he was an invited guest speaker. He started his professional career in Silicon Valley, California with Symantec Corporation where he held leading technical positions on industry leading products. Later on he held key technical positions at DHL Airways IT, MCI WorldCom - EDS, Andes Networks and Nevis Networks. As a Rotary International Scholar at University of Southern California, Tarique obtained Masters of Science degrees in Engineering and Computer Science. He also completed course work requirement for PhD in Computer Science with Research focus on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Database. Tarique was awarded Dean’s Gold Medal upon his graduation in Mechanical Engineering from N.E.D University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi, Pakistan.
Honors
As a student Tarique earned the title of Best Student Research Scholar in Computer Science 1986, (Sponsored by BCCI Foundation). In 1987 tarique was given the Award of Dean’s Gold Medal on graduation with B.E. Mechanical Engineering, from NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi, Pakistan. Tarique came to the United States as a Rotary International Scholar (1988-89), at University of Southern California, Los Angeles , USA. Additionally he was a research scholar at Departments of Computer Science, Industrial & Systems Engineering and Applied Mathematics, University of Southern California (1989-94). In his later years, his research would lay out the ground work for his company, nexTier Networks, being awarded the 2009 Excellence in Technology Innovation Award , by Frost & Sullivan.
