Tanzania Institute of Technological Sciences

The Tanzanian Institute of Technological Sciences is a university located in Dar Es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania. The university was established in 2011 with the first batch joining in 2012 and graduating in 2016. The Tanzania Institute of Technological Science (TITS) is affiliated to the University of Dar Es Salaam and the University of Nairobi in Kenya.
Campus
The main campus, called Kilima Juu (meaning "Top of the Hill" in Swahili), is located 10 kilometres east of Dar es Salaam city and is home to the faculties of Arts, Science and Engineering. The name's origin pays homage to the University of Dar Es Salaam's campus name and is also reference to the location of the University on top of a beautiful hill overlooking Dar. Additionally, the university board has begun construction on a second campus to host the medical and life sciences faculty which is estimated to be completed in 2014.
Student Body
As a new university, TIT is looking forward to creating a diverse and vibrant student body. TITS is associated with many schools across Tanzania and has sent out offers to promising students who have been enrolled in these schools. TITS has received very generous funding from the government of Tanzania and as such has waived tuition for all student in the first year in an effort to attract local and international students.
Research
Research is an essential endeavor at TITS. The faculty members are world leaders, pushing the frontiers of fundamental human knowledge in four main areas: engineering and applied science, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences. The Institute is home to over 200 faculty members spread across 3 academic departments and 7 institutes and centers.
Engineering and Applied Science
Research in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at TITS aims to develop fundamental knowledge and to solve global problems. In particular, efforts are focused on four key areas of societal need: energy and the environment, health, security, and the preparation of leaders who will make wise use of technology. Each of these areas is built on a foundation of fundamental research in materials science, information technology, biological engineering, and applied math and physics.
Collaboration with the European Union
The university is currently in talks with other institutions across Europe to form affiliations and partnerships with them in order to match the University of Dar Es Salaam's reputation in the international educational community.
