Tails to Tell Animal Rescue Shelter Ltd.

Tails to Tell Animal Rescue Shelter Ltd. is a companion animal rescue facility founded by Edna Jackson in September 2010. The facility is located in Crossfield Alberta. The animal rescue shelter is a nonprofit privately funded no-kill shelter that relies heavily on volunteers, but does employ paid staff as well.
Ideology
Tails to Tell is apart of budding trend of animal shelters that believes communal living is better for the animals. The theory is that animals allowed to spend the majority of their time outside of kennels or cages are happier, healthier, and have less behavioral issues, and therefore are more likely to be adopted. A negative of communal living animal shelters is the easy communicably of disease and parasites, such as fleas.
Their organizational goals are to provide a nurturing environment to the animals under their care, to ensure that they are spayed or neutered when they are adopted, and to raise awareness of animal welfare issues in their community.
Organization
Tails to Tell Animal Rescue Shelter operates as a no kill shelter, where animals can live out their lives at the facility if they are not adopted. No kill shelters are often misinterpreted to never use euthanasia on an animal, however euthanasia is used in cases where it would be considered inhumane to keep the animal alive for medical reasons, or in cases of severe aggression. In the case of feral cats , who are often aggressive and shy of humans and usually considered unadoptable, Tails to Tell has set up a network of rural farms and acreages where these animals can live out their lives freely.
No Kill Shelters are under scrutiny by popular animal welfare organizations, such as PETA, for not using euthanasia as a means of population control. PETA's argument is that No Kill shelters will fill up quickly and then have to turn away animals in need, defeating the purpose of the animal shelter. Organizations, such as No Kill NOW! have taken an equally emotional stance against the use of euthanasia in non-medically required situations out of compassion for the animals.
Support
Volunteers and Foster Homes
Tails to Tell relies heavily on volunteers from their community in order to operate. Volunteers can be 12 years of age and older, and perform a variety of tasks.
Foster homes provide the same level of care the animal shelter facility would provide, but in a family home environment. Foster care is considered better for the animals who enter into the program because they can provide more room and one-on-one care. Shelters who use foster care homes provides all of the basic necessities free of cost, as well as the ongoing medical care standard that animals would receive if they were in the shelter.

Funding
The Tails to Tell Animal Shelter relies on private funding and donations from the public and local businesses. Tails to Tell also hosts a variety of themed fund-raisers. Their registration for charity status is currently pending.
