What is on offer?
As would be expected of a Sea Cadet unit, sailing is one of T.S. Illustrious' main activities which is available to every cadet that joins the unit aged from 12-18 years old.
The unit owns and operates two Laser 2000 Performance Dinghys and three Laser Pico Dinghys which is a strong advantage for the cadets and very uncommon within the corps as many units rely on older boats supplied by the MOD.
As well as sailing, the unit offers other waterbourne activities to the cadets such as powerboating on a displacement type motor boat and on a RIB, Canoeing and Offshore Sailing on larger boats owned and operated by T.S. Illustrious' sister unit, T.S. Rebel.
Walton Sea Cadets is not just about waterbourne activities, the unit is involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Award with many cadets achieving their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards in 2008.
Shooting, Adventure Training, Seamanship, First Aid, Engineering and Cook/Stewarding are some of the many activities that cadets can take part in at unit level or at courses available over weekend or week courses.
