Synthmetal (Also known as Electronic metal, Techno metal or electrometal) is a sub genre of heavy metal in which synthesizers are added in to give the song a synthpop/synthrock feel but with heavy metal acts doing it in the form of synthmetal. Many artists have done this throughout their career or on an occasional basis (Such as Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford). Many synthmetal bands are influenced by symphonic metal acts due to their synthesizer use. History Synthmetal has its roots in symphonic metal bands such as Deep purple as many symphonic metal bands made use of synthesizers if they found using a full fledged orchestra on the recordings proved to be difficult. The synthesizer was capable of emulating most orchestra instruments making it perfect in those instances in which a full fledged orchestra could not be used. Synthmetal is belived to have originated around the same time synthpop did (or maybe earlier). Influences It is believed synthpop played a roll in expanding synthmetal as many metal bands covered lots of populer synthpop tracks in the 90's, 2000's and 2010's. Many artists such as Orgy and Rammstein have either covered synthpop tracks or have collaborated with synthpop acts (Such as in remixes). The heavy metal band Ministry for example, started out as a new wave and synthpop group before moving to industrial metal and thrash metal. Synthmetal today Synthmetal today has a generally mild underground fan-base with artists such as Threshold and Pagan's Mind using synthesizers in their metal. Dream Theater is so far one of the best synthmetal bands. Artists and songs Artists that have ventured into the synthmetal genre are listed below along with the songs (If synthmetal isn't what they usually do) Quick note: I didn't add Rush in because of how their synth material is (It has a more new wave feel than a metal feel) but if you think they classify as synthmetal than go ahead and add them (Provided you can find sources to back your claim) Van Halen (Generally limited to the 1980's Sammy Hagar material although they had Jump with David Lee Roth) Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears Lita Ford - Kiss Me Deadly Guns N Roses - Paradise City and November rain (There may be more GnR songs that use synthesizers, so if you know of any please feel free to add them) Orgy - Blue Monday Pet Shop Boys and Rammstein - Marilyn Manson - Neon Synthesis Synthphonia Suprema Threshold Pagan's Mind Dream Theater Symphony X Tarot Pretty Maids Queensryche Citations
