Sylvia Noble

Sylvia Noble (née Mott) is a recurring fictional character in the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, played by Jacqueline King.
She is the mother of the Tenth Doctor's companion Donna Noble, wife of Geoff Noble and daughter of recurring character Wilfred Mott.
Despite her portrayal as an unloving mother, Sylvia has on several occasions shown concern for her daughter Donna's wellbeing.
Character history
Sylvia first encounters the Doctor on her daughter's wedding day on Christmas Eve 2007 in the episode "The Runaway Bride". At the church, she witnesses Donna's disappearance. She is angry at first thinking that Donna is playing a trick, but later expresses concern that her daughter may be dead. When Donna and the Doctor arrive at the wedding reception that has gone on regardless of Donna's disappearance, Sylvia asserts that she knew Donna had been tricking them with an illusion. Sylvia is amongst the guests when robotic Santa Clauses and a Christmas Tree attack the party. Following their success in defeating the Racnoss, the Doctor takes Donna home to her parents. Sylvia prepares a big meal for her family, which the Doctor leaves Donna to enjoy.
In "Partners in Crime", Donna has moved in with the now-widowed Sylvia and Wilfred, whilst she looks for a flat. Sylvia is keen for Donna to get a new job, but Donna grows tired of Sylvia's nagging. Sylvia goes to dinner at a restaurant with members of her "Wednesday Club" and witnesses Adipose emerging from her friend Suzette's and fellow diners' bodies. Exiting onto the street, she sees the march of the Adipose and their departure in a flying saucer. Donna later rings Sylvia to inform her that she has put the keys to their car in a bin and that she must collect them. Donna does not tell her mother that she is leaving with the Doctor, although they fly by Wilfred and wave to him as they depart.
Sylvia and Wilfred Mott both reappear in "The Sontaran Stratagem" and "The Poison Sky". It was revealed that Sylvia keeps an axe behind the front door in "The Poison Sky", in case of burglars, and she was able to use this to smash open the windscreen to their car in which Wilfred was trapped. By the end of the episode she was still unaware that Donna is traveling with the Doctor, however she does recognize him in "The Sontaran Stratagem". Wilfred knows that Donna is traveling with the Doctor, but said that Sylvia wouldn't be able to cope if she knew. She eventually discovers her daughter's adventures in "The Stolen Earth" when she and Wilfred meet Rose Tyler, who is searching for The Doctor and Donna.
In the events of Journeys End, the Doctor returned with Donna Noble, with her memory wiped clean of any memories of the Doctor, Sylvia told the Doctor to leave. Before he leaves and in response to the Doctor's glowing praise of her daughter, Sylvia exclaims that Donna was always special. The Doctor criticizes her saying that she should tell her daughter that.
Sylvia Noble returned for The End of Time, over the 2009 Christmas period.
Wilfred traced down the Doctor and he later came to the Noble house where Sylvia met him again. She was not pleased to see him because she was frightened that Donna would remember him therefore burning up. The Doctor agreed and left with Wilf. Sylvia along with every other human being was later turned into The Master. When they were all returned to normal Sylvia noticed Gallifrey in the sky about to crash on Earth and prayed that the Doctor saves them. She was thrilled when he did and finally began to show some sign of regret after misjudging him.
On Donna's wedding day The Doctor returned and presented Wilf and Sylvia with a winning lottery ticket for that day's draw. He explains that he has been back in time and 'borrowed' the pound to buy it from Geoff Noble, Sylivia's husband who died two years previously. Sylvia is very moved by the gesture and overjoyed.
