Syed Nur Alam Chowdhury

Syed Nur Alam Chowdhury(; 1912-1998), also known as Bachchu Miah (), was a Bengali politician, moulvi and civil servant. He served as Chairman of Rajganj Union for 46 years. The Government of Pakistan and Government of Bangladesh awarded him as Best Chairman in 1967 and 1978 respectively. Chowdhury is the son of Syed Sultan Alam Chowdhury (1881-1917), who is son of Syed Sarwar Alam Chowdhury, son of Syed Badshah Alam Chowdhury (d. 1877), son of Syed Safdar Alam, son of Syed Haydar Alam, the son of Syed Sher Alam Baghdadi.
Career
Chowdhury served many important roles in his life. In 1936, he became the chairman of Rajganj Debt Arbitration Court (Rin Shalishi Adalat) and vice-president of Rajganj High School. He was elected chairman of the Rajganj Union Council in Begumganj from 1937 to 1985. As President and Chairman of the Rajganj Union Council, he had a notable encounter with Cyril Stanley Pickard, the erstwhile High Commissioner in Pakistan. From 1967 to 1969, he directed the Inter-Cooperative Jute Mill. From 1972 to 1976, he was the Director of Bangladesh Jatiya Samabaya Union Bank and secretary of its Noakhali Central branch and later presiding the Land Mortgage Bank in 1981. At 78 years of age, he took and completed a course on Central Bank Management Development. He was also chairman of the Begumganj Thana Development Committee (BTDC) from 1979 to 1983 and a former president of the Rajganj Union High School Committee, Rajganj Fazil Madrasa Committee. In 1981, he became Chairman of Samabaya Union. He was also a member of the Jury Board.
Death
Chowdhury died of old age natural illnesses at 10am on 15 April 1998. He left behind his wife, three sons and a daughter.
