Sviatoslav "Slava" Pestov (born 3 March 1984) is a Russian-born programmer best known for creating the jEdit text editor. With millions of downloads, ten years after it's release jEdit was selected as sourceforge project of the month. In 2003, five years after releasing jEdit at the age of 14, Pestov released the first version of the Factor programming language and continues to work with Factor development. Pestov was born in Tomsk, now in Russia, and emigrated to New Zealand at the age of seven. His autobiographical list of projects shows his first post to the world wide web was in 1995 at the age of ten or eleven. He lived for 10 years in New Zealand before moving to Canberra, Australia, and from there to Ottawa, Ontario for college. He now resides in Wellington, New Zealand. Pestov holds a MSc degree in Mathematics from the University of Ottawa. |
