Surkhaili

The Surkhaili (also Surkhail) is a major Pashtun tribe of Swati origin, mainly residing in the town of Baffa in the Mansehra District, North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan.
Thats right, surkhailis mainly live in Baffa and Balakot. According to all the elders of Baffa and Balakot, Swatis are inlarge divided in to two branches. The leading elite and fighting branch is termed as "SURKHAIL" and the branch mainly linked with services is known as "KHANKHEL". In pushto Surkhail means , the leader, it also means to decide a matter of dispute. According to most authenticated resources surkhailis joined Sayyad Ahmed Shaheed at Balakot and fought against Sikhs. All Surkhailis are settled in Baffa and Balakot. Surkhailis consist of five clains namely:Lughmani,Tetwal,Bejori,Khwaja kheli and Dhudhyari. The class composition of surkhailis from Baffa and Balakot is one and the same. It proves that Swatis of Baffa and Balakot are people of the same blood.Lughmani is the biggest clain in surkhailis and they claim to be originated from Laghman province of Afghanistan. While Tetwal sub clain is further sub divided in four sub sub clains namely: Sadoch, Sher khani, Mada khel and Pila khel.refeferance is gazeteer of hazara 1907 and " BANDOBAST" of lands of mansehra of 1905 according to castes and shajarahs of different swati tribes.
