Kizh Gabrielenos

The Kizh Gabrielenos (also Kij Gabrielenos) are a tribe of Native Americans that inhabited the area now occupied by Los Angeles, California and its environs.
Etymology
In their native language, kizh means "houses": Hence, the Kizh were the people of the willow branch, tulle and brush houses. Gabrielenos refers to their occupancy of the San Gabriel Valley.
Description
Alfred Louis Kroeber wrote that the Gabrielenos were considered “the enlightened ones” by the surrounding tribes, and he himself referred to them in his Handbook of the Indians of California as “the wealthiest and most thoughtful of all the Shoshoneans.” The sites of their villages and holy places now lie buried beneath the concrete and asphalt of Los Angeles and environs. Remnants of this culture exist today and the ancient arts and ceremonies are still being kept alive.
