The Sundunes Condominium Complex is a condominium complex in Navarre Beach, Florida, USA. Located at 7979 Gulf Boulevard, the complex was built in 1984 as one of the first high rise complexes on Santa Rosa Island. At the time, there was a plan to build two buildings - Sundunes I and Sundunes II - with the pool in the middle of the two with a walkway going to the beach;a lack of funds prevented the second building from ever being built. The Sundunes we know today sat empty for several years until some of the original owners were able to finish the building. As a result, the room numbers in the first building start with the number 1 - regardless of the floor. Sundunes has nine stories; eight floors with four units each and a ninth floor with two penthouse units. During Hurricanes Dennis and Ivan, much of the building was damaged. It took 3 years for the building to be finished due to the damage of 5 major storms including the infamous Hurricane Katrina. Over time, Sundunes has undergone some noticeable color changes. From when first built to around the time after the 2005 Hurricane Season, the building was painted a yellow-beige with pastel aqua green doors. Following the hurricanes in 2005, the company responsible for rebuilding the building and the BOD (Board of Directors) gave the building a well needed paint job. The doors were painted a medium blue and the building itself, a sand white. Sundunes still kept its bronze colored railings and roofing pieces. In case of power failure, the Sundunes Condominium Complex sports a Kohler Power Systems 250 Series back-up diesel generator system located in the maintenance room on the ground floor. While only intended to power emergency exit lights, signs, doors, and the elevator, some residents have reported that they are able to get power from certain outlets and certain appliances working. At 1:00 PM on Mondays, the generator tests itself for 30 minutes to make sure it is ready in case of power failure. Some amenities at Sundunes are the two barbecue grills on the west side of the building and a pool on the east. The building is currently managed by ERA of Navarre.
