Sumith Edirisinghe

Sumith Edirisinghe is a Senior Deputy Inspector-General of Police in Sri Lanka.
Early life and education
Sumith was educated at Nalanda College Colombo and excelled in co-curricular activities being a College Prefect, Vice President of Buddhist Association, President of the Social Service League, member of the Saukyadana Movement. He was also Nalanda College Athletic captain in 1975 and was a Cadet sergeant and corporal in Junior and Senior cadet platonns at Nalanda. He was also a member of the college Hockey team and played for Colombo Hockey and Football Club after leaving school. He is a graduate of University of Kelaniya with a degree of Business Management.
Career
Edirisinghe joined Sri Lanka Police Service in 1982 Sub Inspector and has been one time been the Director of Crimes Division. He represented the Police Hockey Team and later played for the Government State Service Hockey Team with distinction too.
Hockey administrator
Sumith started involving in Hockey administration by becoming a member of the working committee of Hockey Federation. Currently he is President of Sri Lanka Hockey Federation and Council, Member Asian Hockey Federation.
Senior DIG Sumith Edirisinghe is also a recipient of the Asian Hockey Federation Diploma of Merit and Aslam Sha Trophy in recognition and honour of services rendered to Hockey at National, Asian and International levels.
