SubtractiveLAD (Stephen Hummel) is an experimental electronic artist signed to n5MD in 2004 and based in Vancouver, describing his own music as "hinting back to 70s-era Eno and Tangerine Dream, but infused with a contemporary laptop aesthetic." His career as a musician started in 2001 doing improvisational jazz, but before long, his developing interests in electronic music and analog synthesizers prompted him to start recording his own albums. He designs most of the software that produces the instruments he uses.
