Student Body Vice President

A Student Body Vice President is usually the second highest ranking officer of a student council in a middle school, junior high school, high school, college, or university. Vice Presidents typically serve one academic year terms in most schools, but some may serve more than one term on the college/university level with their running mate, the Student Body President. The Student Body Vice President, along with the Student Body President, are generally elected via one of three methods:

*By an open general election/poll of the student body at-large
*By the student council, usually out of its own membership.
*By the general student body, in elections held after the Student Council has been selected.

Duties & Powers
Usually, the Student Body Vice President will take over the powers and duties of the Student Body President during his or her absence that may have resulted from illness, death, impeachment, or resignation and other qualified ways which is accepted by the Student Council or their created Constitution.

Depending on what school they are serving, some may not have such assigned duties and powers. In some schools, they only serve as an Assistant to the President or may perform other duties as established by their Constitution, By-Laws, and/or approved duties by their student council, or in some cases, their Student Senate or Congress.
