The Straitjacket Society is an innovative sketch comedy company that started in April, 2005 in Los Angeles, CA with the goal of developing unlimited creative potential for performers, writers, directors and others interested in working in live sketch comedy theater. It has put on over 800 shows in Hollywood since 2008. Beginnings The Straitjacket Society was founded by Alex Collins, Kelly Levy, Michael Proctor, Chris Liner, Beau Wilson, Camille Bennett-Wilson and Sarah Tiana. In August, 2003 Sarah Tiana was working with a company called “Sitcoms Blow.” After the company dissipated a year later, Sarah and the other Blow Show members decided to revamp the company under a new name and thus formed The Straitjacket Society. The Straitjacket Society was created as a way to help young actors in Hollywood accelerate their stage time and gain exposure while still having fun.The Straitjacket Society has currently put over 500 actors through the program. Sarah’s Straitjacket Society character “Carmen” was made famous on the television show Reno 911 in four episodes of the show's 7th season. After casting a show, each member writes sketches in hopes of putting that sketch up before a live audience. With writing mentors and an Artistic Panel overseeing the process, the work culminates in an eight to 10 week run to present the funniest material live to L.A. audiences. Notable Alumni Notable alumni of The Straitjacket Society include Jillian Bell, Sarah Tiana and comic Lenny Jacobson and Kelly Levy of The Soup. Theatre The 6470 Theatre is home to The Straitjacket Society and is located on Theatre Row at 6470 Santa Monica Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA.
