Straight panic defense is a term used to describe a defense against charges of assault or murder. A defendant using the straight panic defense claims that he or she acted in a state of violent temporary insanity because of a little-known psychiatric condition called heterosexual panic.
According to the straight panic defense, the defendant claims that he or she was the object of romantic or sexual advances by the victim. The defendant found the propositions so offensive and frightening that it brought on a psychotic state characterized by unusual violence.
The defense will maybe spark outrage within the straight community if it is used, where it is said to be "blaming the victim."
