Steven S. Lamb

Steven S. Lamb was born August 19, 1957 in Pasadena, California. Mr. Lamb is the fifth generation of his family to live in the Pasadena/Altadena area.

Mr. Lamb is a local public figure who began his public career speaking out on historic preservation issues in Altadena and Pasadena while a general partner in Arroyo Restorations, a contracting firm that specialized in the restoration of architecturally significant homes by architects, including major works by Greene & Greene, Frank Lloyd Wright, Lloyd Wright, R. M. Schindler and Louis B. Easton. As the partner responsible for materials research Mr. Lamb invented many modern techniques of restoration analysis and preservation that were both authentic and affordable to home owners.

In the early 1980s Mr. Lamb fought the destruction of Pasadena's Huntington Hotel, and was instramental in the adoption of a law in Pasadena protecting homes by the architects Charles and Henry Greene. Mr. Lamb also in the early 1980s served on Pasadena's Strategic Planning Committee.

In 1987 Mr. Lamb moved to the last standing portion of Louis B. Easton's Carl Curtis Ranch in Altadena. Mr. Lamb and his wife Jean still live in that restored 1906 house today.

In 1989 Mr. Lamb heard of a plan to demolish the LaVina Sanitorium, architect Myron Hunt's only buildings in the Organic Modern Style, and joined Friends of LaVina to fight this plan. That development was approved and Mr. Lamb as a member of the Altadena Economic Development Board fought the developer to force him to deliver the promised local and minority jobs and trails restorations. Through the efforts of Ron Mathews, another local Altadena activist, local and minority persons were hired. Mr. Lamb and the Altadena community are still advocating for the trails and three lawsuits, filed by others, regarding this matter are pending.

In 1990 Mr. Lamb ran for a seat on the Altadena Town Council where he was first elected as an alternate and has served since 1991 as a regular member. He has been a strong advocate and worked for higher development and environmental standards, better quality and safer schools, an end to racial divisions within the Altadena community, watershed policies, reforesting policies, hillside protection regulations, increased campgrounds on Forest Service land, locally based economic development and job creation, and transparency in government.

Mr. Lamb has also been a member of the Board of Christmas Tree Lane Association, The Altadena Library District Board of Directors, The Board of Directors of L. A. Harvest, the Board of Directors of L.A. Harvest, the Board of Directors of the Triumph Register of Southern California, The Board of Directors of the Wrightian Association and the President of the Society of Organic Architects.

Mr. Lamb is noted for his colorful use of language and this has made him many friends and enemies. In 2001 he was sued by former Los Angeles City Councilman Arthur K. Snyder based on the content of an email he sent to Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich. That case was settled out of court.

Mr. Lamb is presently self employed as a residential designer, artist and coffee roaster. On 8 June 2007 Mr. Lamb was elected to his ninth term on the Altadena Town Council.
