Steven M. Cerutti

Steven Matthew Cerutti (born November 10, 1960, in New York City) is the son of Dino Cerutti, a Harvard educated lawyer and former World War Two fighter pilot, and Pat White, a former professional model. Dr. Cerutti is a Professor of Classics at East Carolina University. He received his undergraduate education at the University of Iowa, where he majored in both English Literature and Classics, with honors in Classics. His excellent work in Latin and Ancient Greek would win him a full academic scholarship to Duke University in 1986, where he was awarded the Ph.D. in Classical Studies in 1992. He is a fellow of the American Numismatic Society, and in 1993 won a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the American Academy in Rome. From 1994 to 1995 he was invited by Stanford University to teach at the prestigious Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Classical Archaeology.
He is the author of five books: The Words of the Day: The Unlikely Evolution of Common English; When Greek Goats Sing Sad Songs: A Beginner's Guide to Reading (and Enjoying!) Greek Tragedy; Cicero's Pro Archia, Text and Commentary (2 vols); Cicero's Accretive Style: Rhetorical Strategies in the Exordia of the Judicial Speeches. He is currently working on his first novel, The House of the Blind Book Collector. He divides his time between Rome, London, Paris, New York City, and Greenville, North Carolina.
