Steve Acquah

Steve Acquah is a chemist who specializes in materials science. He is an Associate Research Professor and manages the research group of the Nobel Laureate Sir Harold Kroto at Florida State University. After completing his doctorate at the University of Sussex he continued his work in Fullerene based research with Harold Kroto at Florida State University.
Education and Academic Career
He is a Chartered Chemist (CChem) and Chartered Scientist (CSci) and has focused on developing methods to interconnect carbon nanotubes so they can be integrated into Buckypaper-like piezoelectric sensors and hydrogen sensors.
Work at the University of Sussex
His research work focused on the polar assembly of a designed protein fibre in a joint research project with Sir Harold Kroto, David Walton and Dek Woolfson. His work demonstrated sequential polar assembly in synthetic protein fibres based on alpha-helical coiled coil structural motif.
Work at Florida State University
Acquah is the Manager of the research group for the Nobel Laureate Sir Harold Kroto and has identified methods for the cross-linking of Carbon Nanotubes in the formation of carbon nanotube paper. He has collaborated on projects involving the integration of carbon nanotubes on a silk scaffold and the identification of immobilized lattice fragments.
Global Educational Outreach for Science Engineering and Technology
Steve Acquah directs the international initiative Geoset with Sir Harold Kroto and Colin Byfleet, and works on science communication by creating a series of educational modules. He presented concepts modules at Science Foo Camp in 2010.
