Lars Onsager Lecture and The Lars Onsager Professorship
The Lars Onsager Lecture and The Lars Onsager Professorship The Lars Onsager Lecture and The Lars Onsager Professorship are international awards established in memory of late Nobel Prize Laureate Dr. Lars Onsager. Lars Onsager graduated in 1925 in chemical engineering from NTH (from 1996 NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway, where he also started on the work for which he later was awarded The Nobel Prize in Chemistry. After Lars Onsager’s death his sons and daughter donated his scientific works and professional belongings to NTH as his Alma Mater. NTH established The Lars Onsager Lecture and the Lars Onsager Professorship in 1993 to award outstanding scientists in the scientific fields of Lars Onsager, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
The Lars Onsager Lecture consists of a publicly announced lecture and a presentation of the Onsager Medal. The lecturer is appointed on the basis of the highest international reputation in Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics. The Lars Onsager Professorship consists of a presentation of the Onsager Medal on the basis on international excellence in science in Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics. It also includes a 6 months research stay at NTNU as a visiting professor. The recipients are appointed by an international committee. Both awards has been presented an annually since 1993. Among the recipients are several Nobel Price laureates.
