STALKER The Road to Pripyat

STALKER: The Road to Pripyat is a Half-Life 2 modification developed by the STRTP Development team, a subsidiary of Refraction Studios (A British-based indie development team, created by Aidan Coxon)). It has gained interest on Moddb and even on the official STALKER forums. The beta is slated for release in Q3 2012, and the final is estimated for release in 2013. It is developed by a small team, consisting of British Developer Aidan Coxon and Danish Developer Jonas Alsen. They have volunteers working with them, contributing details to the mod. Whether or not the team will recruit people into the development is unknown.
History
The mod was announced on January 1, 2010, under the name STALKER: City 17. The original plan for the mod was to take the player to City 17, and have numerous elements from Half-Life 2 implemented into the mod. During the development, the team made a number of maps and models which the fanbase enjoyed. However, towards the end of 2010 the team went quiet. In early 2011, the mod leader and creator, Aidy70060, announced that STALKER: City 17 was cancelled but a new mod is in development, STALKER: The Road to Pripyat.
Storyline
The storyline was recently released by the team. The story was developed by a competition entrant who won the 'Storyline Competition' that was set by the team. The story is based around a man escaping life after his family was murdered and his house burnt down. He heads towards the 'Zone' to discover artefacts and other riches to pay off his debt and become a wealthy man. He has to face the horrors of the Zone, and something much, much more deadly.
Current Development
The mod is being developed at a supposedly slow rate, according to Aidan. He tells the fans that his life is a priority because other he cannot work on development. There are 15+ weapons planned for the mod, each with their own unique styles and settings. The maps are reported to be huge, with the outdoor map being almost a quarter of the original outdoor map in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, perhaps more. Numerous areas for the player to explore have been announced, including 3 underground labs and a military facility. It has also been announced that the developers will try to place 'Emissions' into the game to try to make the mod exactly like S.T.A.L.K.E.R..
Future Development
Aidan has hinted in a previous interview that there is a possibility of a sequel being planned for the mod. He hopes to develop it as an Indie game and release it using either the Source Engine or CryEngine 3. He also said that a multiplayer addon will be developed and released for the mod in 'due time', but his main concentration for the mod is the singleplayer campaign.
